20 Days before the Start

What a beautiful morning here in Northern Colorado!  The sun is shining and the wind is light...  A great day for flying.

Preparations continue and will soon rev up into the full force of frenzied activity.  Coming up this weekend
- more route planning!

I intended this photo to be rotated 180 degrees.  Oh well.  I can turn a plane 180 degrees but not this file.  I am a novice with blogger, always learning.

The photo shows all of the sectional charts for the race route.  Seattle, Klamath Falls!!!  We are flying west of the Rockies.  This will be frontier territory for us.

23 days before the Air Race!

In just a few weeks we will fly in the 2013 Air Race Classic.

Caroline, Lydia and Cara will comprise team #14 in the 37th annual Air Race Classic.  www.airraceclassic.org

This year's route covers 2100 nautical miles from Pasco, WA to Fayetteville, AR.

During the 2012 Air Race, the first for the Baldwin Family Flyers, Cara mentioned - "When we do the Race next year..."  Well, that comment set in place our planning for what will surely be another amazing adventure.

2012 Air Race Classic in Lake Havasu City

Serious strategic planning was underway by the fall of 2012 and secured during our annual family gathering at Thanksgiving.

Caroline has been assuring the avionics are set, the rigging is adjusted, the gear is all ready and inspected.  She will fly to KFNL on Tuesday June 11th.  Cara will fly (commercial flight) to Denver on the 11th.  The team will be together again!  We will depart KFNL, probably on the 13th and fly the course in reverse from KFNL to KPSC via KRWL, KLGU and U76.

Over the winter Caroline flew here and there to keep N15695 and her captain safe and happy.  Lydia took occasional flights in the 172s at the Flying School in Loveland to do the same and Cara tried to squeeze in a lesson when the weather would cooperate.

In April we had the fortune of a spotlight in Karlene Petitt's blog "Flight to Success"

Karlene is so kind, fun and a great promoter of women in aviation!

The following week Karlene published a post on Terry Carbonell, a friend and great inspiration to us.  See Terry's blog at www.teamwildmama.com
